Music Garden:
A Group Session will be offered for children ages 3 to 5. This program is specially designed to
introduce very young children to music. When music and movement are a natural, joyous part of childhood, children benefit
greatly in many areas of life. Language development, self expression, memory skills, concentration, social interaction,
fine motor skills, listening, problem solving, teamwork, goal setting, and coordination are all impacted by early music
and movement education. What's more, as a child learns to play music, other areas of development - creativity, family bonding,
self-esteem, confidence, and emotional development - are also positively impacted.
Music Garden's philosophy is steeped in this understanding. Movement and music activities are perfect for child development.
Music immerses the child in language, evokes movement, stimulates the brain and fosters physical coordination - all in a
group setting that builds community - a truly holistic experience.
This program is offered to children 5 to 7 years of age. This program is designed to teach a combination
of music introduction, with early elements of solfeggio, and elementary music theory. It will offer a combination of solfeggio,
ear tests, theory, development of harmonic perception.
The true origin of solfege is unknown, but we do know the solfege system existed in the 10th century.
Today, solfeggio is a very important course in music training in many countries around the world. Solfeggio is yearly
training program developing first the melodic sense and second the harmonic sense. Basically solfeggio helps students
hone the ability to hear in tune, sing, and play in tune as well. Music theory is also one part of solfeggio, but music
theory alone is not a substitute for solfeggio. Children will also learn how to write music from listening, a form of
musical dictation.
Solfeggio is an 8-year course, which begins at approximately 7 years of age. This class is designed for children who
are taking lessons on an instrument. Solfeggio helps foster extremely useful and unique techniques and skill sets.
